The Virtuous of Mr. Bai Fang Li

Peddling a trishaw to finance poor students: Mr. Bai Fang Li touched the people of China

This story is about an ordinary trishaw peddler who is well-known in Tianjin. From the age of 74, Mr. Bai Fang Li has supported hundreds of poor students using the money he earned from peddling trishaw. In fifteen years time, he has contributed more than 350,000 yuan to finance more than 300 poor students in their tuition fees and living expenses, helping them to complete their studies.

From the year 1986 to year 2000, using the money earned from peddling his trishaw, Mr. Bai Fang Li founded a company called Education Support Company and has contributed more than 350,000 yuan in the form of scholarships. Nobody really knows how many poor students have Mr. Bai Fang Li supported. In May 2005, he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. This thin and skinny elder did not keep any money or property for himself, what he has left is only his selfless spirit and love. Reporters have compiled an incomplete list of students whom had been sponsored by Mr. Bai Fang Li before to commemorate this weak and ordinary but noble elder who has touched the hearts of many people.

Bai Fangli, A Role Model for All of Society to Work at Poverty Reduction

On December 12th, a 93-year-old Tianjinese was selected as one of the 20 candidates for the  “People Who Moved China” 2005 award. When his name, photo and activities were broadcast with those of Yuan Longping, Liu Xiang and Ren Changxia on CCTV, the whole country was moved — it was very difficult for general public to connect the 350,000 RMB donation with an old and thin person who lay paralyzed in bed. ‘An old man, a pedicab, 350,000 RBM donation, 300 poor students……’ when all these words are connected together, the difficulty, misunderstanding, persistence and charitable love of an old man’s life was unrolled before the eyes of general public.

This generous old man was Bai Fangli.

In Daoism, it said that a great brightness seems like darkness; a great square has no corners; a great ability takes a long time to perfect; a great sound is hard to hear; a great form has no shape. It also said that a great perfection seems flawed; a great fullness seems empty; a great straightness seems crooked; a great skill seems clumsy and a great eloquence seems stammering.

The Train of Life

Some folks ride the train of life
Looking out the rear,
Watching miles of life roll by,
And marking every year.

They sit in sad remembrance,
Of wasted days gone by,
And curse their life for what it was,
And hang their head and cry.

But I don't concern myself with that,
I took a different vent,
I look forward to what life holds,
And not what has been spent.

So strap me to the engine,
As securely as I can be,
I want to be out on the front,
To see what I can see.

Wierd but unbelievably true

God created the donkey and said to him, "You will be a donkey and work untiringly from sunrise to sunset, carrying burdens on your back, have no intelligence, eat grass and live for 50 years." The donkey replied, "I will be a donkey but 50 years is too much. Give me 20 years". God granted his wish.

God created the dog, and said to him, "You will guard his house, be his best friend, eat the scraps that is given to you, and live for 30 years." The dog replied, "Sir, 30 years is too much, give me only 15 years." God granted his wish.

God created the monkey, and said to him, "You will swing from branch to branch doing tricks and be amusing, and live for 20 years." The monkey replied, "To live 20 years is too much, give me only 10 years." God also granted his wish.

Finally God created Man and said to him, "You will be the only rational creature on earth, use your intelligence to master over all animals, and live for 20 years." The man replied, "Sir, 20 years is too little, please give me the 30 years the donkey refused, the 15 years the dog did not want and the 10 years the monkey did not take." God granted his wish.

Since then, man lives 20 years as a man, marries and spends 30 years like a donkey, working and carrying all the burdens on his back. With the children growing up, spends 15 years like a dog, taking care of the house and eating whatever is given to him. When he is old and retired, he can live 10 years like a monkey, going from house to house, from one child to another, doing tricks and  amusing his grand children.....

I've Learned

I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it may be better tomorrow.
I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles a rainy day and lost luggage.
I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.
I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life."
I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.
I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.
I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.
I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone.
People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn....

Wise Woman

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.

But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. "I've been thinking," he said. "I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone."

...sometimes it's not the wealth you have but what's inside you that others need...

Priceless Words

A husband wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is aspirin with a glass of water on the side table. He sits down and sees all his clothing all cleaned up and pressed. He looks around the room and sees all spotless, clean and in perfect order. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirin and notices a note on the table. "Honey, breakfast is on the table, I left early to go grocery shopping. Love You!"

Totally shocked with the note, he goes to the kitchen and there is the hot breakfast and morning newspaper. His son is also there having his breakfast. He asks, "Son, what happened last night?"

His son says, "Well you arrived last night around 3am complete drunk and delirious. Broke some crockery, puked in the hall, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled on the door."

Confused, the man asks, "So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me. I should expect a quarrel  with her."

His son replies "Oh that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom and when she tried to take off your clothes and shoes you shouted...
"LADY LEAVE ME ALONE! I AM MARRIED!"

Moral :
Self induced hangover ....                 $ 400
Broken Crockery                          $ 800
Breakfast                                   $  10
Saying the right thing when drunk - "PRICELESS"

...there are somethings in life that nothing, no money, no credit cards, can buy...
